End-to-end creation of a transformational mobile application

Development of a sophisticated contextual search platform with multiple complex integrations and a stunning user experience on low resource systems.

01

The Challenge

Our client successfully launched their first application on the iOS platform, growing signups and positive reviews. Although they successfully reached iOS users, they lacked internal experience designing or developing for the Android platform and users. With competitors on their heels and investor pressures for expedited growth, they needed a technical partner to help them expand to the majority of the addressable smartphone market.

02

The Solution

We collaborated with our client’s technical and design team to quickly design and build their Android platform. This included catching up to parity with their existing iOS platform, tailoring the application to the diverse Android ecosystem, and executing additional cross-platform features and capabilities.

03

Our Approach

We worked with our client on:

  • Detailed feature specification to provide a clear roadmap
  • Complex backend and third party integration architecture for 20+ independent APIs
  • Design of complex new features rolled out across both Android and iOS
  • Performant engineering and consistent design across resource constrained and hardware diverse Android phones
  • Sophisticated animations and transitions on low-resource systems
04

The results

We helped our client:

  • Triple their total addressable market (TAM) and add tens of thousands of users by expanding their platform to Android
  • Garner media attention as “The U.S. WeChat” in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and MIT Technology review for the early chat feature we developed
  • Vet, interview, and onboard new internal engineers to the product to expand their in-house capacity
  • Enable Vurb to be acquired by Snap Inc. for $114.5M, and fulfill their desired exit strategy
